Walter Kemmsies, PhD


Chief Economist, Moffatt & Nichol
 

Walter’s responsibilities include forecasting global trade and economic trends as they pertain to and the assessment of greenfield/brownfield investment in transportation infrastructure as well as mergers and acquisitions. Since joining Moffatt & Nichol he has been a lead analyst for several strategic development plans for North and South American ports, several high-profile M&A; transactions, terminal-operator expansion decisions, and most recently has been advising a west coast port authority as it prepares to tender a long-term lease for one of its terminals for the first time. Walter is a seasoned economist with a global perspective, having lived in Europe and Latin America, and traveled extensively throughout Asia. Prior to joining Moffatt & Nichol, Walter was the Chief European Strategist at JP Morgan, London, which he joined after heading the Global Industry Strategy team for UBS Bank. Walter has a strong background in industry and financial analysis and a substantial record of research presented at conferences and published by investment banks, business periodicals and academic journals. Most recently he spoke at the Terminal Operators Conference in Istanbul and the Canadian Maritime/Journal of Commerce Conference in Vancouver. He is an external director on the board of a hedge fund, an SEC-registered analyst and a member of the National Association of Business Economists.
