Steven A. Evans

Assistant Vice President-Ports and International Norfolk Southern Corporation

Steve Evans is Assistant Vice President-Ports and International at Norfolk Southern Corporation, a position he has held since March of 2001. He directs that company’s efforts in the areas of port strategy, market research, economics, traffic forecasting, and yield management. In addition, he has responsibilities related to international business development and equipment planning, including on-going efforts to improve the quality of Norfolk Southern’s freight cars. In December 2003, Mr. Evans assumed responsibility for Lambert’s Point Docks, Inc., Norfolk Southern’s break bulk port operation located in Norfolk, Virginia, which handles various commodities including lumber, rubber and project cargo.

Mr. Evans joined Southern Railway, a NS predecessor railroad, in 1977 as a Marketing Management Trainee and since then has held a variety of positions in the Market Research, Strategic Planning, Coal, Financial Planning and Financial Analysis Departments. In 1995, he was appointed Assistant Vice President-Finance, where he was responsible for Norfolk Southern’s capital budgeting, risk management, and costing functions. Prior to assuming his current position, he was Assistant Vice President-Equipment and Market Planning and was in charge of the company’s Equipment Marketing and Market Research and Economics Departments.

A native of Syracuse, New York, Mr. Evans holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Logistics from Penn State University and an MBA from Syracuse University. An avid golfer — when he can find the time — Mr. Evans spends most of his free time trying to convince his wife, Kathy, to take up the game.
